Introducing...

Well, after months and months and some more months of consideration, my mother and I have finally settled on a name for our booth at the Vineyards Antique Mall.  The name is High Cotton Pickers.

Since we came up with the name, I've been hard at work putting together another blog that will showcase things we have for sale in our booth.  Go check it out here.  Want to learn a little more about High Cotton Pickers, click here.

Let me know what y'all think!

Recipe To Try - Cheeseburger Casserole

This casserole tastes just like a cheeseburger, y'all!  I thought it was delicious.  My husband thought the pickles on the top would be weird, but I thought that's what made this dish.  And the best part is, if you used low-fat cheese and lean ground beef or turkey, this would be low fat.  Although I'm guessing if you substituted those (cheese and beef) out in any other dish it would make it low fat.  Oh, who am I to judge?  High fat, low fat, no matter what, it's yummy!

Here's the recipe from Skinnytaste:  Cheeseburger Casserole.

5th Annual Shootin' for a Cure

Saturday, August 24th marks the 5th annual Shootin' for a Cure in Cresson, TX.  This event benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  They will also keep additional monies raised in Hood, Parker, Johnson & Tarrant Counties to help find a cure for ALL cancer.

2012 Shootin' for a Cure
The Miles For Melons team started this event back in 2009 to help one walker in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day For A Cure and to help with medical expenses for one of their dearest friends who found out earlier in the year that she had stage three breast cancer.

2012 Shootin' for a Cure
The registration fee is $50 per shooter.  This $50 pays for your shooting, dinner, drinks, and one $1 raffle ticket.  If you just want to go to the event and not shoot, that will cost you $15 and you'll get dinner and drinks.  They accept cash, check, and credit card payments.

What the ground looks like at the end of the day - Shootin' for a Cure - 2012
They will have five shooting stations. The shooting stations are set up with "Annie Oakley" style shooting.  There will be six rounds where six shooters will compete against each other trying to knock one another out based upon the hits on the clay target. If you leave a fragment of the clay after you shoot, the other shooters have a chance to shoot the piece of the clay you missed.  Winners of the six qualifying rounds will face off in the final round for the winning round gift prize.  Shooting rounds continue throughout the day.

Shootin' for a Cure - 2012

Also, $5 will get you one ticket or $20 will get you five tickets to register to win  a Benelli - 12-gauge Super Vinci (up to 3 1/2 mag) w/case Full Realtree Camo pattern and Case of Rio Shotgun Shells OR Drenalin 70# 29" Real Tree Camo Bow Package.

There will be a live auction and a raffle where you could get anything from Texas Rangers Suite Tickets to a guided hog hunt to dinner for 6 at Grady's Line Camp.  Each raffle ticket costs only $1.

Shootin' for a Cure - 2012

Registration begins at 11:00 @ The Gray Ranch, 617 Clear Skies Court, Cresson 76035.  Shooting starts at 11:00.  Rocky Lott Band plays @ 12:30.  The raffle begins @ 2:30.  The Highway 80 West Band plays @ 4:00.  Shooting stations close @ 5:00.  The live auction begins at 5:30.  The BBQ dinner is served @ 6:15.  At 6:30, the silent auction ends and the Truck Stop Gamblers play.  Bring your gun and ammo and a lawn chair.

See y'all there!

Notice the sign - White Odd Fellows - there's three of them there...well, maybe one white one and two red ones.
Just kidding - love you guys!

I've seen quite a few live performances in my life by different artists.  There's one that I've wanted to see for a long time.  That's Chris Knight.  He's going to be at Billy Bob's Friday night.  If I wasn't an old coot and could stay awake past 10:00 and could get a sitter, I'd love to go see him.  I'm fairly certain I would cry if he sang this song...one of my faves:

Know a venue or a band or local singer/songwriter you want me to include in my weekly Texas Music post?  Shoot me an email @ fortworthmama@gmail.com and I'll be glad to check them out.

Now That's Relaxing

Since I'm without Internet access and therefore can't get on my laptop, I thought I'd go through my pictures on my cell phone and post one.

This is a picture of my oldest daughter Maddie.  I think I took it a couple of summers ago.  I was outside working in the garden, and I came in the house and found her laying on the couch like this.  She has lotion all over her face, pickle slices on her eyes, and an apple slice in her mouth cuz, you know, that's how we spa it up 'round here!

Summer Isn't Over Yet (Thank Goodness)

If you're 18 or younger, you can bring an empty Dr. Pepper can (no, it doesn't have to have the NRH20 label on the can) to NRH20 and you'll only have to pay $13 to get in the park.  That's a dang good deal, y'all.  NRH20 is so much fun.  Y'all get out there and take advantage of this great deal while you still can.

What I've Been Working On - Cabinet

First of all, let me say I'm sorry for the not-so-great iPhone pictures.  I bought this cabinet at an estate sale for $5.  I thought I'd take it home and strip it and give it a few coats of dark stain.  Got it home and realized it was made out of plywood and the best bet would probably be to paint it.

So I watered down some seafoam green paint and slapped on a couple of coats.  Let that dry and then dry brushed on some dark brown glaze and this is what it turned out looking like:

I can't tell if she's pretty or...
...pretty ugly.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's the first one!
