Recipe To Try - Pioneer Woman's Chicken Quesadillas & Pico de Gallo & Guacamole

These are Pioneer Woman's Chicken Quesadillas minus some of the bell peppers.  We're not big bell pepper eaters round these parts, so I used just one yellow bell pepper.  I usually cut PW's recipes down by half - she's got more people to feed than I do.  I'm saying this so you don't freak out when you read the recipe calls for 12 tablespoons of butter.  That's a tablespoon per tortilla.  So unless you're planning on making six huge plates of quesadillas, then you won't use that much.  These are delicious no matter how many you make.

I also made Pioneer Woman's Pico de Gallo.  You can find that recipe on the same page as the quesadillas.  Yummy!!!

With the Pico de Gallo, you can make the guacamole.

Everything tasted wonderful.

What I've Been Working On - Metal Shelves

I bought the yellow shelves at an estate sale for $5.  They were in pretty rough shape as you can tell.  I sanded and sanded and sanded a little bit more and then sprayed and sprayed and sprayed some more.  And then I hung them on the wall in our booth at Vineyards Antique Mall and some sweet person bought them - yay sweet person!

Now for the funny of the day:

Something To See Tonight For FREE - Mexico Boys Choir

These little dudes put a smile on my face this morning - especially that little one in front. They are Estudiantina Guadalupana Potosina or the Mexico Boys Choir.  I saw them on Good Morning Texas.

They will be performing at the Rose Marine Theater 1440 North Main in Fort Worth @ 7:30.  While you're there, drop them a donation to help pay for their trip.

Recipe To Try - Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites with Nutella Swirl

These lovely things are called Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites with Nutella Swirl.  I got the recipe from Everyday Insanity

Oh me, oh my, these things are delicious!

They're so little and cute that they can't possibly be fattening, right?

It might be a little bit fattening, though, when you make a second batch of these and find yourself eating the WHOLE BOWL OF ICING!  Now, I wouldn't know a thing about that.

What I've Been Working On - Dresser

I bought this beaut at a yard sale for $10.  She had seen better days, bless her heart.  I gave her some lovin'.

First, I stripped her drawers...then her top.  That old, yucky paint come off like buttah.  Then I glazed her with some dark brown glaze and spray painted her hardware with hammered black.

Then she said thank you.

What We've Been Working On - Headboard

I've been searching for months for a king-sized headboard.  My mom found one for us at a yard sale.  I forgot to take a picture of it before my husband starting taking it apart.  We thought it was solid wood, but...

...it wasn't.  The insert piece was particle board.  So after it broke, my husband went to Home Depot, got some MDF, cut out a new piece, and after much toil and trouble, we came up with this:

Isn't she pretty?  I think I'll name her Agnes and tell her she's pretty every day.

Now for the funny of the day:

Pick Your Plum - Cute Umbrellas

Have y'all noticed that little square over there to the right?  The Pick Your Plum box?  They have some really neat deals every day, but I thought today's deal was really cute.  It's umbrellas that look like little animals, or princesses, or superheroes, or rock stars for your kiddos - adorable!!  They even have a polka-dotted one for the big kids like us - yay!  They're $8.99 a piece and ship for $4.99.

Recipe To Try - Ranch BLT Macaroni Salad

I think I found this recipe on Facebook, but I can't quite remember.  I think this Texas heat is drying up some of my brain cells or something.  Anyway, it's quick and easy.  It's called Ranch BLT Macaroni Salad.  Instead of using a bottle of ranch dressing like the recipe called for, I used the package ranch stuff with the mayonnaise and the buttermilk...you know, the good, fattening stuff!

Also it says to mix the bacon up with all the other ingredients.  That would be fine if you're planning on eating the whole bowl immediately in one sitting.  I ate some of this the next day after I made it and of course the bacon gets soggy and not-so-appetizing looking.  I'm thinking maybe this would be better if you served the crispy bacon crumbled on top.  Either way, it's delicious!

Now, for the funny of the day:

What I've Been Working On - Seafoam Green End Tables

Bought these Duncan-Phyfe type end tables at a yard sale (light beige, lower left-hand corner).  I was planning on doing some fancy staining on the top part but I had the wrong kind of stain, so we wound up staining the whole top.  Anywho, when my husband took the tops off of the bases, the tops fell apart in three different pieces.  He had to glue and clamp and sand, sand, sand.

I wish like anything spray paint came in seafoam green.  Why, oh, why, don't you come in seafoam green, spray paint?  Please, Krylon, Rustoleum or somebody hear my pleas!  Since I don't have a fancy sprayer (sniff, sniff) I wound up painting these suckers by hand - no big whoop.

I think they turned out to be fabulous.  What do you think?

On a side note:  I came across this picture while searching for pics of the tables.  It just cracks me up.  (The cat looks like my sweet cat, Loco, who died a few years ago.  I could see him saying this - lol.)

U.S. of Awesome T-Shirt Review and GIVEAWAY!!

Y'all, I am so excited about this that I think I could do cartwheels...and maybe even a front handspring, and for this 40-year-old heavily-endowed mama, that's saying something!

I first found out about U.S.of Awesome from a great food blog called Whipped (y'all ought to check that blog out too if you get a chance.)  The great people at U.S. of Awesome sent me a shirt to review and I'm in love with it.  It's got Abraham Lincoln on the front of it, y'all!  See...

I'm going to be stylin' and profilin' on the 4th!

Here's a picture of me in my U.S. of Awesome shirt and a special visitor:

I got this guy and a buddy of his at a yard sale the other day.
U.S. of Awesome shirts are really top-quality, 100% cotton.  They have womens, mens, kids & babies t-shirts.  The best part about them to me is they're MADE IN THE USA!  Go here to check out all the styles they have.  Their designs celebrate patriotism and Americana and aim to kindle the flames of the American spirit.  Can't get much better than that now, can ya?

And, y'all, the nice folks at U.S. of Awesome are giving away a t-shirt of your choice to one of Fort Worth Mama's readers!  You can pick this one:

Or this one:

Or this one:
You can pick whatever style you like and whatever size you need.  I wish that more styles came in XL, but I really do love the one I got with Abe Lincoln on it.  Please remember that they are 100% cotton.  Mine shrunk just a little bit after I washed it on cold and dried it.  Remember that when you're ordering.

Want to win a U.S. of Awesome t-shirt?  Please leave me a comment below and tell me why or how you think the American spirit is alive and well.  What makes you proud to be an American?  Also tell us what style shirt you'd choose if you won.

After you've left me a comment on the blog, then use the cool Rafflecopter and let me know you left me a comment.  You can also earn extra entries by liking Fort Worth Mama and/or U.S. of Awesome on Facebook and following either or both of us on Twitter.  Giveaway starts today July 1 and ends July 10, 2013 @ midnight Central Standard Time.  I'll pick a winner July 10th via random.org.
